Healthy Tips for 2021

New years, new resolutions or just wishing for health?

Last year was a tough one for all, one no one was prepared for and hit us all hard. However it has shown us how vulnerable we all are and how much health matters to our existence.

I feel this year is about staying safe and looking after ourselves to ensure COVID or other illnesses do not overcome us, something we all have potentially taken for granted in the past.

So I have a few tips to ensure this year you optimize your health and stay well.

Inner Health

Nutrition is essential for life and for a good life good nutrition is required. Feed yourself as you would your child. Good nutrition also aids energy levels, stress and depression and boosts the immune system.

Nutrition basics come down to eating a variety of wholesome foods that support your health from the major food groups: fruits; vegetables; whole grains; low-fat dairy products and lean protein, including beans and other legumes, nuts and seeds; and healthy fats.

Stress is a major part of many people’s lives now. It has significant impacts on health and recovery. To reduce stress you need to find the time to take an honest look at your situation and be aware of what you can actually do and achieve. Learn how to say “no” and learn how to feel good when you give your self attention. Get time out from your world in a way that makes you happy or practice mindfulness, mediation or walks within nature.

Alcohol and Smoking

These are often used as crutches, to aid stressful times. They can give a sense of disconnection and freedom from the world currently around you but in the long run they can damage your health and relationships.

Your current health

When did you last have a health check. Many chronic illnesses can be prevented. It is good to have a check in with you GP who can assess your current health. They may examine you and perform some blood tests to ensure your are optimised.
